Packaging with Care

With the holiday season quickly approaching I thought I would share the importance of packaging. While it's certainly most important to keep in mind durability and assurance that your item makes it to the recipient in it's intended condition and not mangled in transition. But it's also a good idea to create a beautiful package that will make a lasting first impression. I hope that when someone receives an item from me that they see the extra care taken to make them feel special and that it builds their excitement and anticipation to open their new item! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should go into great expense or make it extra fancy. In fact my packaging is very simple yet sophisticated. I try to keep in mind the values I find important when creating my work, including quality, simplicity and the environment. I don't like to use a lot of excess paper with lots of dyes, or unnecessary bubble wrap. But I still want it to be fun and reflect my shop. So many times I use brown paper with black accents including ribbons and shredded paper for fun and protection.

So the next time you send out one of your items you care so much about be sure to show your care in packaging too! Keep in mind what's important to you and reflect your shop well. And remember it doesn't just have to be a standard for the holidays you can do it all year round.
